“ELECTION LAW AND LAW ON CONFLICT OF INTEREST – EXPERIENCE AND PRACTICE IN THE REGION“

Association of Election Officials in Bosnia and Herzegovina (AEOBiH), in partnership with CeSID - Serbia, and GONG- Croatia, will implement the project entitled “Election Law and Law on Conflict of Interest – experience and practice in the region“ in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Serbia in the period from November 2007 through the end of October 2008.

This twelve-month project will foster regional cooperation and share best practices in Serbia, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina through addressing election legislation and Conflict of interest issues in BiH, Serbia and Croatia. This will be done by organizing three regional meetings, which will gather representatives of the state institutions, which deal with the Conflict of Interest issues and Election Law, as well as representatives of nongovernmental sector from these countries.

Based on lessons learned and exchange of experience, these meetings will provide NGO sector with relevant information what could be improved in their countries. Based on exchange of experiences and presenting best practices and thanks to the lessons learned, these meetings will have the aim to achieve positive changes in the region. Besides that, in this way basis for constant cooperation between state institutions and institutions from the region would be established as well as networking of NGOs, which are active in these areas. Final documents done by 3 NGOs (CeSID, GONG and AEOBIH) will be the result of the project. These documents will be based on conclusions and recommendations of the participants, and at the end of the project, they will be sent to relevant institutions in each country (Parliaments, Election Commissions, Conflict of Interest committees, etc.).

AEOBiH will be leader in this project. Center for free elections and democracy (CeSID) from Serbia, and GONG from Croatia will provide support to the project through giving proposals for potential participants from the state institutions for regional meetings, preparation of reports from the meetings, and recommendations for improvement in their target countries.

This project is implemented thanks to the funds of the Open Society Fund Bosnia and Herzegovina.
